10 Horror Video Games That Let YOU Be The Killer
6. The Walking Dead Season 1
The Walking Dead isn't a murder simulator by any stretch of the imagination, and isn't anywhere near as obvious in its killer intentions. Like many choose your own adventure games, the decision lies with you, the player, as to what happens with your character.
It's just that in a post-apocalyptic world full of the undead and the soon to be undead, there's a lot more justification behind stone cold shooting someone - especially if they're infected - than there would be normally.
Lee, of course, is a killer to begin with, putting you in the unique position of sympathising with a convicted felon as he gets his second chance in a whole new world of death and destruction.
Here, he faces a twisting narrative peppered with 'to kill' or 'not to kill' choices.
Characters become infected, food gets offered up at the expense of dooming an entire family - but it's always on you what happens next.
You can take out both friend and foe along the way as you unlock options, but whether you choose to be judge, jury, and executioner or not in these scenarios is entirely up to you - making for a nuanced, sensitive moral dilemma with every life laid at your feet.
Being a killer isn't necessarily evil in this world, but will you make the choice to truly turn Lee into one? Is it worse to let someone turn into a zombie? Is it right to make young Clementine become one too by the end of the game?
