10 Hugely Important Video Games Kids Today Can Never Fully Appreciate
We promise, Tony Hawk used to be so cool.
It doesn't matter when you first started gaming, every player comes to learn about the most influential titles at one point or another. Pushing the industry forward or revolutionising certain genres, there are plenty of games that have released over the short lifespan of the medium that are destined to go down as genuine classics, worth playing to any and everyone in position of their respective consoles. However, because many of these influenced every game that came after them, the success and impact of the initial release kind of diminishes as time goes on. Resident Evil 4 completely redefined the modern meaning of survival horror, yet that game's popularisation of carefully-paced combat, over-shoulder gunplay and focus on resource management can be seen in just about every title in the genre to this day, reducing the wow factor for any first timers trying to imagine what it was like back in 2004. It's a shame too, because kids just getting into games in the modern climate will no doubt end up taking for granted the many moments and innovations that older players cherish. The constant evolution of the industry means that, as mechanics and tech get more and more refined, some older titles simply lose their appeal in a modern gaming environment.
