10 Incredible Games That Make TERRIBLE First Impressions

3. Starfield

Starfield get good
Bethesda

When it comes to Starfield, the latest release from the behemoth developer Bethesda, there is a pattern emerging. Read any review or ask any friend who has played it, and they'll all say something along the lines of, "Oh yeah, it gets really good after X-hours in." Well, these reactions don't lie, as this is not a game that puts its best foot forward.

This epic title has a plodding start, as the first few hours are woefully average. The promising allure of a whole universe to explore is a strong hook, but it takes time to experience anything that feels genuinely epic. Most of it is just plain, uninteresting environments and gameplay.

Now, you eventually get access to an ability that completely turns the tables and gives you a reason to play. It allows you to engage with the world differently and leads you down an exciting path.

Sadly, it takes anywhere between 5-15 hours, depending on your affinity for side quests, to get to a point where the game starts feeling like Bethesda's promised sci-fi epic. As such, it is a tough sell if you're looking for immediate satisfaction. Still, those willing to slog it out will surely come to appreciate what Starfield has to offer.
