10 INCREDIBLE PS2 Games You Still Need To Play
4. Dark Chronicle
One of the PlayStation 2's earliest titles was Dark Cloud, which many believe was intended as Sony's answer to The Legend of Zelda. It was innovative for its time by melding together the dungeon-crawling RPG genre with a town-building aspect that directly played into the narrative and progression of the game. Overall, it was a neat little title.
It's sequel Dark Chronicle, however, is the real deal.
Taking every element from the original game and cranking it up to eleven, Dark Chronicle is one of the finest action RPGs available for the system. The combat is fun and weighty, the town-building aspect has been refined, making it integral to the narrative and even a time-travel element has been thrown in just in case the rest wasn't enough for you.
Outside of the main quests, there's also a ton of side-content to sink your teeth into like fishing, NPC quests and even a weirdly addictive golf-style mini-game.
Both Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicle are available for download on the PlayStation store. It's not entirely necessary for you to play Dark Cloud first as it's the lesser of the two games, but for the complete experience, you might as well.
