10 Incredible Video Games Most People Abandoned At The Start

And finally an oldie but a goodie now, with Sonic the Hedgehog and a stat that truly defies comprehension.

Since the original 1991 game was re-released for the Xbox 360 and PS3 we've had access to trophy data, which even accepting the game's unforgiving old-school difficulty relative to contemporary platformers, has shockingly few players even getting past the opening Zone.

Green Hill Zone is one of the most iconic stages in video game history, but to date 55.9% of players haven't even cleared it. And if you assumed the sample size was small, think again - PSN Profiles took this data from more than 100,000 owners of the game.

Puzzlingly, Green Hill Zone doesn't offer much of a challenge at all compared to the stages that follow it, and can be breezed through in a mere matter of minutes.

The perhaps more logical explanation, then, is that nostalgia-tinged players bought the game to mess around with for a few minutes, but actually never got around to playing through the rest of the game.

It certainly makes more sense than thousands upon thousands of players struggling to get through Green Hill Zone.
