A therapeutic remedy for anyone who’s ever been scared of the ocean, Abzu is a beautiful journey through watery environments filled with millions of aquatic life forms and dozens of stunning underwater vistas to drink in.
Gameplay is that of a walking-sim, although I suppose we should be calling this one a swimming-sim. You’ll explore around the various environments, restoring life into each area, and slowly piecing together the mystery of this ancient underwater world.
What it lacks in actual gameplay, Abzu more than makes up for in its atmosphere. An enchanting score accompanies the stunning visuals throughout, and it morphs and adapts to each new area that you come across.
With every piece of ocean that you rejuvenate, the game becomes more full of life, featuring multiple occasions that will, if you pardon the pun, take your breath away. This underwater adventure paints the ocean in a rarely seen peacefulness, and is a nicely packaged short experience.
