10 Most Influential Video Gaming Characters Of All Time

9. Crash Bandicoot

Sony never fell into the same trap on Sega and Nintendo (giving their console and company an official character), however Crash Bandicoot became the PlayStation One€™s unofficial mascot upon the launch of the first title in 1996. Crash himself was nothing special to look at, however it was the personality displayed within his games that was slightly more mature and comical than similar protagonists in similar games. Whether riding a polar bear or being chased by a giant boulder, every aspect of Crash€™s adventures felt fast paced, different ad enjoyable. Following the success of his first three titles (released annually by now superstar publisher, Naughty Dog) the Crash Bandicoot franchise followed modern gaming trends, and lent its characters and world to racing and party style video games, all of which provided PlayStation / PS2 owners with very credible multiplayer experiences on Sony€™s system. With 17 titles under his belt across a wealth of platforms, Crash takes a great deal of credit in changing the original side scrolling platform game into a more 3D environment. Bandicoot€™s games still sell well on the PlayStation Network today, a sign that his own influence has not been forgotten by retro loving gamers. Did You Know? Crash Bandicoot was €˜created€™ by his nemesis, Dr Neo Cortex, who spends the first three titles trying to destroy his own creation.
