10 Most Influential Video Gaming Characters Of All Time

8. Dizzy

Dizzy was one of the earliest home entertainment video gaming characters, first bursting on to the scene in 1987 in his debut title, €˜ Dizzy €“ The Ultimate Cartoon Adventure€™. Unlike many games before (and indeed after), there was no violence in Dizzy games, making him some what of a favourite for parents. This made Dizzy an acceptable title to be played by younger children, and it was from here his popularity soared. An egg wearing boxing gloves (that€™s right!), Dizzy was an intrepid adventurer who solved problems, collected items and tried to stop the plans of the evil Wizard Zak, who had a habit of performing wicked spells on Dizzy€™s family and friends. This lead to a series of cartoon / story book adventures featuring reoccurring characters, in games that were released periodically up until 1992. Socially, Dizzy became easily recognisable, and was used in many video game shops when creating POS displays or as window decoration. Being available across a range of platforms, Dizzy also became well known due to sheer accessibility of the games. EAs of 2012, the Oliver Twins (the games creators) received over £25,000 of pledges via Kick-starter to create a sequel. Unfortunately, this was nowhere near enough to create the game!. However, the power of one small egg and a franchise that is still selling to this day is one which cannot be ignored. Did You Know? In 2006, a custom designed engine called Dizzy Age was released, that allows fans to create their own Dizzy Games. At the time of writing, there are over 80 unofficial Dizzy games produced using the software!
