10 Insane Alternate Video Game Sequels You Won't Believe Got Cancelled
6. Resident Evil 4 - Haunted House
Pretty much every single Resident Evil game has changed massively from conception to release. There was famously a version of Resident Evil 2 that was scrapped quite far along in development, but even that can't hold a candle to the many iterations of Resident Evil 4.
This sequel was always intended to revolutionise the survival-horror franchise which, after a bunch of sequels and spin-offs, had started to feel a bit stale. Consequently, nothing was off the table, and the first version of the project was actually set to feature Leon Kennedy stuck in a haunted, gothic mansion, being terrorised by a hook man ghost.
This version would have also seen a blend of the old-school fixed cameras with the over-the-shoulder style of the final release, acting as something of a bridge between the old games and the new.
Like Resi 2 though, this was again scrapped midway through development (after it had been unveiled to the public, no less), for a total overhaul.
That revised, final version is undoubtedly one of the best games of all time, but a Resident Evil ghost story does sound incredibly tantalising.
