While pretty much any of the major battle royale games could have been swapped in for this entry, PlayerUknown's Battlegrounds takes the gold not only for being the first to popularise the genre, but for being the title with arguably the biggest skill gap.

Sure, Fortnite does have some genuine depth when it comes to how building is utilised, but it's also populated by far more casual players who make for easy kills. PUBG, on the other hand, only gets more punishing as time goes on.

As in all BR games, the odds are stacked against you. You have a 1-in-100 chance of winning, and if you're particularly unlucky a match could be over before you even pick up a weapon.

While it might have been a level playing field once however, now enough time has passed - and enough features have been added - that a huge chunk of the PUBG playerbase know exactly what they're doing, employing reliable tactics and acquiring the best gear to make anyone hoping to get lucky look like a total fool.

There's no more hiding in bushes and hoping for the best; you need to put in the work if you want to beat out the rest and claim victory over those other 99 players.
