3. Virus - TimeSplitters 2

There have been plenty of game modes similar to Virus included in multiplayer shooters over the years, but the version in TimeSplitters offers the perfect blend of hectic action and claustrophobic horror. The premise is simple: one player starts off with the virus - signified by a terrifying green glow around them - and if they manage to touch another player, they'll infect them and bring them over to their team.

In the second game, it's actually a bot that starts out as the infected enemy, which adds an interesting PVE element to the mode for its opening, before your friends turn into opponents and the human team starts to dwindle.

It's a classic premise, but it transformed TimeSplitters' usually fun and anarchic shooting into something kinda horrifying and suspenseful, as you're chased down by genuinely terrifying (for the time) zombies baying for your blood.
