3. Breath Of The Wild Was Meant To Have Aliens And Lilliputians

Breath of the Wild is the biggest Legend of Zelda game by a large margin. The map is 8.3 square miles, meaning it's slightly smaller than Manhattan. Despite the game's immense size, not every idea made the final cut.

At one point, BOTW was going to have more modern elements. Not only would Link wear ordinary clothes, but he would ride a motorcycle and play the guitar. (A motorcycle was incorporated into the DLC.) There was supposed to be a village filled with tiny people that Link could interact with if he shrank to their size, similar to the Minish in The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Other ideas that were abandoned were a Magic Meter, the Hookshot, and the Beetle. The developers are considering incorporating these elements into the 2021 sequel.

At one stage, the game was going to revolve around aliens. This version, which was codenamed Invasion, would have an alien mothership infiltrating Hyrule and sending out flying saucers to destroy the land.

However, the boldest idea for Breath of the Wild was that Zelda was strongly considered to be the main character instead of Link.
