10 Least Imaginative Pokémon From Generation I
7. Electrode
Electrode also ranks lower than expected on this list because the Pokéball, in and of itself, is an innovative design. Plus, the idea that there are Pokémon that look like pick-up items but are actually sentient, exploding balls of death.
That being said, it's just an upside-down Pokéball with eyes.
Electrode earns a spot on this list over its pre-evolution, Voltorb, because it does little to nothing to improve upon Voltorb's design. Yes, Voltorb is just a Pokéball with Haunter's eyes, but again, the Pokéball is a creative design on its own. For Electrode, all they did was turn Voltorb upside down, make its eyes smaller, and add a s**t-eating grin to its bottom half.
There was so much they could have done with Electrode. They could have made it quadripedal and given it collapsible robotic legs, or they could have had the two sides of the "Pokéball" split and make them part of its metallic arms, like a precursor to Tapu Koko. Either way, it would've still been able to disguise itself as a Pokéball, but it would've been more appealing and less lazy.
Maybe someday, Electrode can get a more inspired Mega or Galarian form. I suppose we can only hope.
