10 Major Missteps By Video Game Companies

9. "Error 37" - Diablo 3

Warcraft 3
Blizzard

The Hype for this long awaited sequel was extremely real. Fans were salivating to step back into the world of sanctuary and meet the rest of the Prime Evils. The player base for Diablo 2 was still going strong 12 years after launch, and the pre release footage looked strong, Diablo 3 was set to take the world by storm.

Cut to several weeks later and no one is playing, but not for lack of trying. Diablo fans were left stranded at their computer monitors for days, with nothing but the sight of error 37 for company. Once again a publisher had spent so much time fiddling with the details of their always online DRM, they forgot to actually make the game work.

Ensuring you have enough server space for a game where you require everyone to be online sounds fairly obvious to most of us, but maybe we just aren't cut out for the world of game development.
