10 Mandatory Video Games Every Xbox One Owner Needs

8. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

Despite the silly premise and time-travelling nature, Assassin's Creed has always been a series that takes itself seriously - historical events are faithfully recreated and every key scene in the series seems to have huge, dramatic repercussions on the game's story. That's great and all but shouldn't a series that's all about hopping through time be a bit more fun every now and then? Ubisoft agreed, and that's why Assassin's Creed IV is arguably the best in the series. Black Flag takes several gameplay elements from Assassin's Creed III (namely the ship battles) and expands on them, creating a swashbuckling tale of pirates and Assassins. There's never a dull moment when you're exploring the Caribbean by sea, with the game's ever-changing weather conditions and random events constantly changing your course, and the immense sense of adventure captured by the game is something seldom seen in gaming, sadly. There's more to being a pirate than exploration and sunbathing though - waging war on the open sea is thrilling stuff and the series' movement and combat is perfectly suited for assaulting and scaling enemy ships. Black Flag can't escape all of Assassin's Creed's problems but the pirate lifestyle is a great distraction from them - Ubisoft need to embrace their creative side more often.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
