10 Mandatory Video Games Every Xbox One Owner Needs
7. Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor
Creating a game based off of an already existing property is risky business, especially when you're dealing with one as beloved as Middle Earth. That wasn't enough to stop Monolith Productions though and thank god - Shadow Of Mordor is a great game which needs to be played. Mixing the combat and stealth mechanics of the Arkham series with free-running and movement controls not unlike those found in Assassin's Creed was a smart move by Monolith; Shadow Of Mordor is a joy to play and the combination of the two systems works really well. The difficulty curve is steep at first but once you've upgrade Talion's abilities and learned the intricacies of combat, you'll be putting Uruk-hai to the sword faster than you can say "my precious". There's some phenomenal ideas at work here too, most notably the Nemesis System. Every enemy in Shadow Of Mordor has a unique identity and they ascend or descend through Sauron's hierarchy as the game progresses. It's interesting to see the game develop and progress on a constant basis as it creates new challenges and story with little effort - you have extra incentive to hunt down your targets and wipe them out if they have a personality and a story behind them. Rest easy Middle Earth fans, the series is in good hands here.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
