1. Kairi Gets A Keyblade And Does Nothing With It - Kingdom Hearts 2
The Kingdom Hearts series spans over ten games across more than eight platforms so there's clearly a lot to look at. However, one of the stories biggest failures comes towards the end of Kingdom Hearts 2.
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 were primarily about the main character Sora finding his two best friends, Riku and Kairi after their home world was destroyed. So when one of them has a character-defining moment that gets completely glossed over, it hurts.
As players fight their way through the final world, they are treated to a quick cinematic of Kairi being casually given a keyblade with a very "oh-by-the-way" feeling. The nonchalant way that this moment is handled is bad enough on its own, but the fact that we never see Kairi with her keyblade again throughout the rest of the game is even worse.
Since players can swap out either Donald or Goofy as party members for Riku, not being able to do the same for Kairi is the very definition of a missed opportunity. The game completely flubs the chance to bring its starting trio back together at the end, and misses out on a major emotional impact in the process.
