3. Save Blocks - PS2

Cast your mind back to the good old days, the days when there weren't any cares in the world other than school, fun, and the PlayStation 2.

Countless hours were spent on one of Sony's most successful console and for good reason too; the exclusives were fantastic, boasting PlayStation staples like the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Jak and Daxter, and Ratchet and Clank just to name a few.

As soon as you booted up that console and heard the system music that - along with the GameCube's little jingle - is probably lodged into your brain forever, you knew it was a good day.

But what if you found out that the iconic startup screen is actually influenced by your memory card? Yes the little towers that appear on boot up aren't just there for decoration. Each one represents a different save slot and game, the bigger the tower the more time spent playing.

It's something that as kids nobody ever realised was a thing - in fact many of us wouldn't have even noticed a change in the towers as we played.

Instead you probably lived in fear that the lovely blue would turn to dark red, symbolising the death of a disk, and the end of your Friday night fun.
