Cloud needed his friends to save the world from the evil Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII and the player needed a memory card to save both themselves and the spiky-haired protagonist from having to start from the beginning. It was like the video game equivalent of Groundhog Day (only with much less Bill Murray). Unfortunately, one memory card simply didn't have enough space for PS1 owners' bulging game libraries (especially when games like Gran Turismo greedily took up a third of their total space). The console had two ports for memory cards, but once three or more were bought, managing them became an OCD person's nightmare. There simply wasn't enough space to adequately list all of the saves the card contained on the label. Searching high and low for the memory card that stored the International A license on Gran Turismo - that took hours upon hours of blood, sweat and tears to obtain - was just a burden many gamers had to bare.
