10 Mistakes Nintendo Got Away With (Because They're Nintendo)

1. The Wii U

This truly is a shame to put the Wii U on here because it had the potential to live up to the monumental success of its predecessor, but seem to trip over its own feet at every turn.

So much so in fact, that the Wii U turned in a loss of $49 million.

Nintendo didn't do themselves any favors by having the reveal focus most of their marketing on the gamepad, and making it unclear if this was yet another accessory for the Wii or another console. Meaning that both retailers and gaming websites practically had to spell it out for customers that this was a new console, which is never a good look.

It also lacked third party games essential to the eighth generation, and lets not forget, this is the console that gave us the worst Sonic game of all time Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, though it did have some killer exclusives like Bayonetta 2, Splatoon and the HD remasters of two beloved Zelda games.

And while the eShop did allow you to play Nintendo classics from its 30 year history on a modern system, it also featured half-baked likes of Meme Run and The Letter, showing a complete lack of quality control.

Thank goodness for the Switch.
