10 More Great Video Games That Never Got Sequels
3. Black
Criterion, in their own words, set out to "do for shooting what Burnout did for racing - tear it apart", and you cannot fault them for the confidence. Whilst physics engines and processing power have moved on exponentially in the following years, Black blew our minds with its efforts in 2006.
There is a plot in Black, told between levels, but it was a by-the-numbers action romp, involving a CIA black ops unit, hence the title, and a bunch of naughty terrorists. But honestly, that's not what Black was about.
What is was about, was pretty much run and gunning your way through levels, destroying practically everything in sight along the way. Criterion had honed their destructive methods with the Burnout series, instead trying their hand at the FPS genre. Channeling old school games like Doom and Quake, it was a mad blast from start to finish.
The only "successor" since is Bodycount, which looks more like Superhot than what Black set out to do. Whilst now playable on Xbox One, Black's planned sequel was dropped after differences with EA, having not been touched since.
