10 More Video Game Sequels You Didn't Know Were Coming In 2020
3. Spelunky 2
A freeware game originally released for Windows back in 2008, Spelunky has had quite the rise in fame since its development.
Its 2D design and combination of addictive but rewarding gameplay led to demand for ports on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation 4 and Chrome OS from 2009 all the way through to 2014.
Spelunky is a game set around a cave crawler who treks through a series of tight caverns in the hunt for treasures and damsels in distress. The caves change with every play through, making this one of the most replay-friendly titles in this list and helping to explain why we saw so many cross-console ports.
Spelunky 2 has been in the works since 2017 and spent a frustrating 2019 being pushed back time and time again, but it finally looks set to be with us this 2020.
Lead developer Derek Yu has been with the game since its inception and has put in an immense amount of time and energy to ensure his finished product is something every gamer can appreciate.
This sequel looks set to introduce plenty of new layers to the original formula, improving the game's textures, dynamics and mechanics and throwing in a whole host of new items, characters and baddies to power through.
