Online multiplayer is one of the many great gaming revolutions of the last two decades, and while it has allowed players of all kinds to convene and enjoy some jaw-dropping shared experiences, it's also wide open to meddling from trolls.
No matter the steps a developer takes to steer their experience away from griefer culture, almost any multiplayer game can be exploited in some form, typically by playing it in a way the dev never intended or by actively hampering the efforts of your teammates.
Granted, some games are designed with this entirely in mind, but more often trolls will take an undeniable satisfaction from breaking a game's internal logic and honour system and disrupting the experience for everyone else.
As frustrating as it can be to get on the receiving end of such tomfoolery, are there really any among us who haven't indulged in even just a little "harmless" online trolling?
More than mild inconveniences, these behaviours are all sure to induce rage in anyone they affect, while in many cases the devs are still scrambling to find solutions to what is, at its core, one of the most basic aspects of human nature.
Some people just want to watch the world burn, and you know what? Sometimes it's hilarious...
