3. Marvel's Avengers
Release Date: 15 May
Okay, let's be upfront about something: Square Enix's upcoming Avengers title has never looked all that impressive from a gameplay standpoint.
Combat-wise, it looks stiff, and seems to lack that superhero punch (shouldn't Mjolnir send goons flying with a single whack, rather than hitting them like an ordinary melee weapon?), while only the Hulk sections - where you can pick up two enemies and bash them together to create a shockwave - look like they'll be fun to play.
But to cut the game some slack, we haven't seen any new footage for several months, so Crystal Dynamics has had ample time to crack out the polish and work on those areas that need some refining. Even if the gameplay remains underwhelming though, we still can't wait to get our hands on this one for the simple fact that it's the first AAA, story-driven Avengers game we've had since the Marvel Cinematic Universe rose to dominance.
These characters are now part of our mythology and it's undeniably exciting knowing that we'll soon get to play as the Avengers, exploring a Marvel universe constructed with the immense power of current-gen consoles and PCs. That has never happened before, and we're getting all tingly just thinking about it.
