Hardcore Pokefans can rest easy. A bonafide RPG set in Game Freak's iconic universe is on the cards for 2019 (more to come on that front), but in between satisfying the insatiable hunger to Catch 'Em All for casual and hardcore player alike, the famed developer has found time to try its hand at an entirely new experience.

A surprise announcement at the tail end of 2018, Town, as the title so aptly describes, takes place entirely within the confines of a sleepy human settlement that threatens to fall into ruin as monsters begin to appear. Rather than attempt a drastic genre shift, Game Freak is sticking true to turn-based gameplay for its fresh RPG, the twist coming in the form of a summon system allowing would-be heroes to call on fellow townspeople all with different abilities to help push back the monstrous horde.

Given the setting, it's unclear how much freedom to explore Game Freak will allow, or whether it'll even serve as a major component, but quality is always preferred over its counterpart. If Game Freak's handheld origins have taught us anything over the years, it's that it can do a whole lot with very little.
