6. N64
Oh look, another Nintendo console (we're not done yet either). There's a reason there are so many of the Japanese electronics group's systems here, they're consistent in how high quality they are - few companies define the genre of entertainment known as videogames quite like Nintendo. Even though cartridge-based, the N64 is a powerhouse, one which actually extends its charms through choosing not to use the more popular CD. Few gamers could afford both the original Playstation console and the Nintendo 64, so a choice had to be made, and both systems had their own distinctive strengths and weaknesses. The N64 controller was definitely one criticism, but the library of games means it's still fun to wheel the console out every now and then. Guaranteed merriment is had when playing with friends too, in the same room, something which the games industry is losing touch with.
