3. SNES
The last Nintendo console to be featured, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was the natural follow-up to the wildly-successful NES, and improved on that machine in every conceivable way. This is another one which is still set-up in front of many TV sets across the world, and there's good reason for that - not only are the games timeless, the system itself is so well made, and many original ones still inhabit homes to this day, in perfect working order. What isn't to love? The controller is nigh-on perfect, the games are colourful slices of fun, and there's a real pick-up-and-play vibe to the entire experience. If you're not getting the message by now, Nintendo rule, and that's without even mentioning what the company achieved with the Wii.
Best games: Contra III, Super Castlevania IV, Street Fighter II, Turtles In Time, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, The Legend Of Zelda - A Link To The Past.
