5. So I Told Dave That I-- "Commence Battle" --And He Needs To Understand Th-- "Commence Battle!" --It's Over.

Whilst random battles won't a new thing in FF10, the storyline and god awful characters made it unbearable. I don't know who came up with the idea to have battles appear without showing the monsters first, but they probably found the idea in the same chest that EA find all their marketing ideas. FF12 and thankfully the subsequent FF games at least showed you were the monsters were so that you could avoid them or know where they were, but it warps my mind that this wasn't though of beforehand. I understand perhaps that memory capabilities of the day may not have allowed developers to have monsters roaming the map but it was still infuriating to be drawn into a battle just as you were about to cross over into a safe area and were out of potions. Whilst I'm on that thought, why on earth do I have to be transported to a new area to fight said battles? Are the monsters in some sort of customs holding area? I could understand it in older games, but what on earth was happening in FF13? Yeh, we've got this amazing new game for the PS3 with all sorts of funky new ideas and tons of memory to work with, but we're going to have to move you to a new area EVERY TIME A BATTLE STARTS. Dear lord I hope they don't do this in FF Versus....you know....when it comes out.....soon....I hope.
