4. This Isn't The Save Destination You're Looking For
This moment exists in many games but it has never frustrated me as much as it did with FF12. Just like with many SE games you can't just open up the pause menu and save, nope in this game you have to find very specific crystals that allow you to save your progress. Now this doesn't sound that amazing, but these crystals also healed you and restored your MP; the crystals were also placed conveniently before major boss battles or after particularly difficult dungeons. Now I don't have to explain to you how frustrating or darn right impossible it is to explain to your parents that you can't come to dinner right now as you can't just save the game, especially when you're shouting this down the stairs from your room. To really screw with you SE decided to also have a monster that could mimic the save crystals and appear completely harmless until you touched it; it even showed as a save crystal on the map. Imagine spending a few hours clearing a difficult dungeon, defeating a tough boss and using up most of your items. You've run out of potions, most of your characters are dead and you've get less than 5% health and MP. You see a save crystal in the distance and run towards, a smile plays across your face and you press the "x" button to save your game. The save screen doesn't come up and legs pop out of the save crystal, your character targets the new enemy and is killed by it a few seconds later. The Game Over screen pops up and you stare at the screen in shock for a few minutes, you hurl the controller across the room and go downstairs to dinner, vowing never to play the game again. God I hated Crystalbugs.
