4. Assassin's Creed 3
Publisher: Ubisoft Developer: Ubisoft Montreal Platform: Xbox 360/PC/PS3/Wii U Release Date: 30th October 2012 A shift to yearly releases often spells stagnation for gaming franchises, with fans keen to pick up on any perceived lack of imagination or innovation as indication that someone somewhere has chosen a big bag of money over the interests of the fans. And there have already been some similar grumbles concerning Assassin's Creed, and Ubisoft's prolific rate of production - but fans need not be concerned, because the model for Assassin's Creed allows almost infinite innovation. A new chapter in the franchise can just jump forward or backwards in time to a new historical period, bringing in the weapons of the period and new engaging environments without having to really tinker with the engine of the game too much. But that isn't suggesting for one minute that Assassin's Creed 3 is no more than a lazy historical port - the visual developments since Revelations are obviously massive, and the environments have all changed drastically thanks to the new historical setting. New hero Connor also packs a whole new set of behaviours and weapons, and his skillsets are very much in tune with his environments. So despite the fact that we're well into the Assassin's Creed series, this third "main" title will bring innovation and reinvigoration - very probably the perfect way to herald the end of this current generation of consoles. http://youtu.be/-pUhraVG7Ow You can follow all of our
