10 Most Iconic Hats In Gaming History
3. Links Hat (Zelda Series)
The hero of time has had many shapes and forms over the years, but a few things have remained a constant in the character design. His green tunic, his elven features and of course, his long baggy cap. Well, his cap until recently.
Takashi Tezuka, a Nintendo game producer, came up with the original design for Link, including his ears and hat. The pixie-like appearance reminded Shigeru Myamoto of Peter Pan, so the team decided to make him green.
With such a legendary look, why did Nintendo decide to get rid of the hat in Breath Of Wild? Well, it is quite simple.
According to Saturo Takizawa, the art director of Breath Of The Wild, with the increasing graphical fidelity of modern consoles, it was getting a lot harder to make it cool.
That’s fair enough. Can you imagine if they ever made a live-action Zelda movie or TV show? Even an actor with the skills of Laurence Olivier wouldn't have the chops to wear the Wee Willy Winky style headwear and not look like an idiot or Ebenezer Scrooge waking up on a Christmas morning.
Of course, there are ways to unlock the hat in the game, you just have to work for it by completing all 120 shrines.
