10 Most Impressive Open World Video Games Since 2010

5. Horizon: Zero Dawn

People were pretty much sold on Horizon: Zero Dawn from the moment they mentioned robot dinosaurs and whilst it's easy to simply chock the game's success up to a simple and marketable premise, the game goes so much deeper than that.

Borrowing heavily from the Witcher 3 style of game design, Zero Dawn got every aspect of its world design right. The map was the perfect size and crammed with things to do, balancing the perfect line between repeatable content and vapid empty checklists.

And beyond all that, the world was simply like nothing ever seen before. Borrowing heavily from the mentalities Native American tribes and blending that seamlessly with Roman motifs, the game brought a bizarre futuristic twist to real-life historical influences that just goes beyond description.

And it had robot bloody dinosaurs!

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
