6. Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep - Aqua Is Trapped In The Realm Of Darkness
At the beginning of Birth by Sleep, Aqua and Terra and both preparing for their Mark of Mastery exam to become official Keyblade Masters. However, after Terra almost uses the power of darkness, Aqua is the only one who passes.
This immediately creates a rift between her, Terra and Ventus. Once Xehanort and Vanitas begin their manipulation tactics, Aqua is made responsible for bringing her friends both back. Despite her determination to do what she thinks is right, Aqua unintentionally pushes Terra and Ventus further away when she reveals her task.
With Terra hurt by her perceived distrust of him, and Ventus angry because he believes Aqua’s new status as Keyblade Master has changed her, she becomes more determined than ever to save her friends.
Therefore, when the three meet in the Keyblade Graveyard to try and challenge Xehanort, these differences are not fully reconciled. Despite her best efforts, Aqua cannot prevent Terra from being taken over by Xehanort.
In her desperation to save her friends in any way she can, she becomes trapped in the Realm of Darkness for several years, unable to find an escape or change the unintended, yet terrible consequences of her actions.
