One of the greatest open-world RPGs of all time has achieved effective immortality via modding.

There's just something about Skyrim that draws modders to it, that imbues them with the passion to make some of the coolest mods on the internet. On Nexusmods alone, Skyrim and Skyrim Special Edition add up to a total of over 120k mods.

Those mods range from balancing, to bug fixes, to just plain bizarre stuff like the infamous mod that replaces all the dragons with Thomas The Tank Engine.

Wanna start a new game but hate the game's opening? The Alternate Start mod lets you begin from a wide range of pre-set origins. Want your own castle? The only limit in choice there is what your computer can handle because a lot of them are very big and very detailed.

Skyrim's modding community isn't just large, but it's fantastically varied, with more being added as we speak. Skyrim may have its flaws, but the mods will always be reason to come back.
