10 Most Polarizing Characters In Video Games

A list of polarizing characters wouldn't be complete without mentioning Abby from The Last of Us Part II. However, it's impossible to talk about her without any spoilers, so just in case you're interested in playing the game and haven't got around to it yet, you have been warned!

To those who have played the game, the reason so many people despise Abby is pretty obvious. She killed Joel! With a golf club, of all things!

Now, there are naturally some other minor issues with her character, like her dismissive attitude towards some of her companions, and the fact that she repeats the same mistakes as the person she despised. However, these character traits - or rather the way in which Abby develops past them - are also the reason why so many people defend her character against the hate.

After Abby kills Joel, the game lets you experience her life prior to that moment and gives you a chance to understand her better. The game then tries to humanize Abby in the present day, forcing you to question whether or not she's actually a villain for acting the way she did.

This arc made many people appreciate a character who the game initially wanted them to hate, but then again, it's easy to understand why some couldn't forgive her for Joel's death.
