4. Jackson “Jax” Briggs

Jackson Briggs, better known simply as “Jax”, is a major in the Special Forces. Since his debut in Mortal Kombat II, Jax has been playable in every Mortal Kombat game. His most recognisable feature is his bionic arms which he began using in Mortal Kombat 3 and has since used in all future games. He is often seen as a no nonsense foil to Johnny Cage’s banter, as well as being close friends with Sonya Blade.
Jax enters the second Mortal Kombat tournament in Outworld with the goal of saving Sonya, who has been captured by Shao Kahn along with Kano in order to force to the participation of Earthrealm. In the rebooted timeline, Jax is captured by Shang Tsung, which is the reason Sonya enters the first Mortal Kombat tournament. Sonya is again captured, leading to Jax going to Outworld to rescue her. During this, he faces the red ninja Ermac, and has both of his arms removed. From this point on, he wears the bionic arms in place of his regular arms.
Jax is the main grappler character of the Mortal Kombat
franchise, easily being the fan favourite of the Special Forces characters. He
has a wide selection of iconic moves at his disposal, specifically his ‘Gotcha
Grab’ and his ‘Ground Pound’. Jax is able to get up in the face of his
opponents with these attacks that can quickly eat away a characters health bar.
