Appearance: Mortal Kombat II
Mileena is the “daughter” of series antagonist Shao Kahn and “twin sister” of Kitana. She first appeared, alongside her sister, in Mortal Kombat II as one of Shao Kahns fighters in the second Mortal Kombat tournament. Mileena has always been a popular character with fans, making an appearance in every game except for 2005’s Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.
Despite being consistently referred to as the daughter of Shao Kahn, Mileena was in fact a creation of the sorcerer Shang Tsung at the request of the Emperor. Shao Kahn was displeased with his adopted daughter, Kitana, and desired a stronger fighter and heir. Shang Tsung created Mileena in his ‘Flesh Pits’ using DNA from both an Edenian, Kitana’s race, and a Tarkatan, Baraka’s race. This Tarkatan DNA made her much more ruthless than her sister, and gave Mileena her iconic mouth.
Mileena has a very vocal fan base that has remained loyal to
the character since her debut. Despite her death at the hands of series
newcomer D’Vorah in 2015’s Mortal Kombat X, these fans insisted upon her return
in Mortal Kombat 11. Mileena was eventually introduced as a part of Kombat Pack
2, to the delight of many.
