Amnesia: The Dark Descent is often heralded as one of the scariest games ever made, and that’s largely owed to its ghastly rank-and-file monsters, The Gatherers.

The Gatherers are the undead servants of the villainous Alexander of Brennenburg; they patrol Brennenburg Castle, occasionally leaving the grounds to kidnap test subjects for Alexander’s fiendish experiments.

Gatherers can be split into two groups, the most common being the Grunt. These monsters have a patchwork, cobbled together appearance - they’re constructed in a very shoddy fashion which makes Frankenstein’s monster look like an adonis by comparison. Their limbs are held together by crude stitching, their skin fits loosely over their bodies like an oversized onesie; worst of all, their lower jaw is horribly distended and hangs down beneath their chest.

The other, much rarer Gatherer, The Brute, is a towering giant with a hole where his face should be and a colossal butcher’s knife replacing one hand.

Combat is not an option in The Dark Descent, so you’ll need to hide and use your wits to evade The Gatherers.
