10 Most WTF Video Game Reboots
2. SSX
We should honestly be grateful for the SSX (2012) reboot. Yes, it completely failed to capture the joy of SSX: Tricky, and it wasn't even that good on its own merit, but it was a lot better than what we almost got.
Originally unveiled as SSX: Dark Descents, EA showcased just how hilariously out of touch they were with their audience by nearly releasing a dark and grim take on the classic snowboarding series known for its over-the-top jubilance
Thankfully, EA did backpedal on that one to deliver a game more in line with the SSX tone. In the end, the game featured a more nuanced, but rewarding, take on the controls, as well as an excellent soundtrack that remixed itself based on your tricks.
Too bad the game was gimmicky as hell. Aside from the wingsuits - which were really fun for speeding over cliffs and obstacles - the game also introduced extremely high-altitude levels where you would freeze to death if you didn't spend enough time in direct sunlight, or suffocate if you didn't collect enough oxygen.
What was once a joyful snowboarding game became an exercise in micromanagement, where we had to choose between awesome tricks and resource management.
