Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival is not much more than a boring attempt to sell Animal Crossing figurines. The article could probably have just ended there in all honesty, and it would be just as informative. Don't just take my word for it - director Aya Kyogoku even admitted as such in interviews.

Amiibo Festival is a very traditional take on a virtual board game. Once you've tapped in your favourite amiibo figurine (you'll need four of them to play a four-player game), you roll your dice by tapping your figure onto the Wii U gamepad, find your way onto an event spot, and either win or lose Happy Points and Bells.

Unlike the hectic Mario Party, there's no mini-games and crazy item backstabbing to be had here - it's simply an average board game with a mild stock market gimmick wrinkled in.

Therein lies the rub - amiibo Festival is just bland. For a game that exists as a tool to sell extra figurines and cards on top, it does very little to compel you to come back for more. It barely manages to exist on its own merits, a soulless vehicle to extend a new line of figurines.
