10 Open-World Video Games You Must Play Before You Die

1. The Witcher 3

CD Projekt RED

Want to know how to make an open-world perfectly? Fill it with interesting locations, beautiful vistas, and actually give players a reason to explore. Or you could just copy what The Witcher 3 did.

The Witcher 3 delivered on everything that it promised players, giving them one of the most expansive worlds ever to be seen in gaming. Combining this with genuinely interesting things to do and a character who actually has a reason to explore means this open world is one of the most impressive in gaming.

Exploring the Skellige Isles for the first time and realising you can climb basically any mountain is really one of those moments in gaming you can never forget, and it's all because of how real The Witcher 3's game world feels.

All of this is even more impressive when you consider that this is actually the first open-world game CD Project Red have ever worked on. If they can pull this off with Cyberpunk, who knows how revolutionary that game will be?
