10 Overlooked Upcoming Games You MUST Consider
3. Cairn
Upcoming survival-climber Cairn looks undeniably reminiscent of 2023's brilliant Jusant at a first glance, though the key difference is that Cairn is designed to be a far more rigorous, "realistic" climbing game.
You'll not only need to place pitons to support yourself and manage resources like chalk and water - you'll also need to alter your posture and balance to keep safely scaling the unforgiving Mount Kami, a mountain which nobody has ever summited before.
Despite the sweaty-palmed nature of its gameplay, players will periodically encounter NPCs who offer some levity and intrigue, and the mountain's many routes of ascent provide ample opportunities to explore every nook and cranny.
Even though Cairn sounds hardcore, developer The Game Bakers has also included a number of accessibility features, with customisable difficulty settings and even a Forza-like rewind feature, where players can quickly undo a silly mistake and try again.
All in all it sounds like Cairn can be as stressful or as meditative as you want it to be. As ever, options are a wonderful thing.
Cairn releases on November 5.
