Missingno is the stuff of legends among Pokémon fans. It is a secret debug Pokémon that the player can accidentally spawn in and even capture via an exploit, after which it will grant them the kind of power that not even legendary Pokémon can offer.

To get Missingno, you have to reach Cinnabar Island. Once you're there, you can spawn Missingno by using Surf off the eastern side of the isle in such a way that your character will be floating on the edge of the shore.

This will begin to trigger random encounters as per usual, but what you're eventually going to notice is that there's a new "Pokémon" popping up on top of the usual rabble—a somewhat disturbing amalgamation of pixels called "Missingno" (the term is actually just an abbreviation for "missing number," but this didn't stop the fans from using it as a name anyway).

Catching MissingNo is a standard procedure, but what you get for adding it to your party is quite spectacular indeed. The missing Pokémon is capable of duplicating whatever items you have, including one-of-a-kind rewards like the Master Ball!

The bug can definitely make your game a cakewalk, but you should be careful, as frequent usage can corrupt your save file!
