10 People Who Changed The Video Game Industry Forever

5. Sir Tim Berners-Lee

There won’t be many inventions that will change the course of human history in the future, but the World Wide Web has forever altered the paradigm of human interaction and for that we owe one man.

The only person on this list not affiliated with video games, Tim Berners-Lee can be credited with inventing the pivotal tool within the internet, changing the course of human history and giving birth to the Information Age.

“TimBL” is also a member and chair of many boards to do with information sharing, government data, and web development, as well as a professor at Oxford University. His work has touched every facet of human life and society, and changed the landscape of how we interact and socialise. Video games have been swept up in the tsunami of change during that evolution, with Xbox Live, Steam, digital marketplaces, and the app store all being gone if not for the framework and structure that Berners-Lee concocted.

Modern gaming (along with almost every piece of technology) relies on the internet to keep people connected and as consoles progressed, their innovation was and will continue to be driven by the wonder of the Web.

A lover of video games, Star Wars, and cereal. Thinks Starfox Adventures was really good.
