10 People Who Changed The Video Game Industry Forever

6. John Romero

No relation to the late, great, grandfather of zombies, John Romero is the legendary game designer who brought us classic shooters like DOOM, Wolfenstein, and Quake.

Without Romero and his fellow developers, titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Halo wouldn’t exist. DOOM (arguably Romero’s most associated project) was met with immense popularity upon its release, with its success and design carving out a whole new gaming experience that hadn’t been seen before. Being involved in over one hundred projects during his career, Romero remains an inspiration to anyone who wants to get in to the video game industry for the sheer joy and passion of doing something they love. Developing a love and inquisitive interest in video games from a young age, what Romero has achieved through skill and determination paved the way for the talented men and women at companies like Sledgehammer, Treyarch, and DICE, and he continues to inspire kids around the world to do something they love.

Romero changed games from being kid-friendly platformers to slicing up aliens with a chainsaw like a badass, and stands as a beacon and role model to future game developers and designers.

A lover of video games, Star Wars, and cereal. Thinks Starfox Adventures was really good.
