10 Perfect Short Video Games To Get You Through A Gaming Lull
3. Child Of Light
The most recent release on this list, Child Of Light surprisingly comes from the creators of Far Cry 3; following up a big budget shooter with a delightful fantasy RPG is both genius and bizarre. That Child Of Light distinguishes itself so well from similar titles is a huge achievement; it's a highly memorable game. Firstly, the game is entirely drawn in watercolours and it looks beautiful. Everything is animated neatly and the whole game looks like it should be hanging in a museum somewhere. There's a nice variety to the landscapes and the game has a great sense of scale and adventure (it's possible to see future areas and dungeons far off in the distance). The gameplay is great too. The platforming elements of the field sections of the game are undermined slightly by Aurora's ability to fly but in-battle, everything feels highly original. Every character and enemy share a time bar which dictates who will make the next move and when. Each move has a cast time and attacking an enemy who's casting will interrupt and delay them; beware though, it works the other way too! It might seem like a relatively small gameplay element but battles quickly turn into races as you seek to slow enemies down using your firefly pal Igniculus to gain a small advantage; in action, it's pretty exciting. With some great gameplay and visuals, Child Of Light is definitely worthy of your time. It's a relatively short adventure that will definitely help kill several hours of a long gaming drought. Better still, it's available on every major platform out there right now, so you have no real excuses.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
