10 Promising Video Games That Totally Botched Their Launch
4. Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Halo: The Master Chief Collection was supposed to be something special. It was a huge bundle of games from one of the industry's most celebrated franchise - fully remastered versions of Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, as well as slightly retouched versions of Halo 3 and 4. It was a clear message of goodwill from Microsoft a year after the Xbox One's disastrous launch - but it wasn't to be.
Although the campaigns worked fine, the game's multiplayer was an unmitigated disaster. Perhaps it was to be expected - four different games worth of multiplayer would never be an easy task to work with. Unfortunately, The Master Chief Collection's multiplayer was unplayable for many, with crashes, split parties, unbalanced teams and more. 343 Industries tried their best to stem the tide, removing playlists from the multiplayer to try and improve search times.
After a plethora of unsuccessful patches, 343 went silent, until the Studio Head personally apologised for the game's shortcomings. Eventually 343 even released the retouched campaign of Halo 3: ODST as compensation. However, 100 days after launch and beyond, the multiplayer remained broken.
Even an achievement rewarded for sticking with the game was, ironically, bugged.
