10 Promising Video Games That Totally Botched Their Launch
3. Battlefield 4
These days, if you hear people talk about Battlefield 4, it's generally very positive. The game has retained a fanbase, and its massive 64-player battles continue to be populated.
It didn't start out this way, however.
Battlefield 4's launch was incredibly rocky, highlighting some of the issues caused by developing for a brand new console on a constrained time scale.
The game was hit with freezes, crashes and seriously widespread disconnects that forced people out of games. It wasn't a problem limited to the PC either - consoles were affected too. The situation grew so bad that developer DICE postponed all development on future expansions to work solely on fixing the issues with the launch game. Publisher EA took responsibility, but also attempted to place some of the blame on the fact they were developing for the next-generation consoles as well.
Battlefield 4's troubled launch damaged DICE's reputation among players, but a concerted effort has been made to try and avoid the same glitches and bugs that plagued Battlefield 4 with future games. Battlefield: Hardline and Battlefield 1 both underwent extensive beta periods as a result of Battlefield 4's launch.
