10 PS1 Games That Still Look Good In 2018
5. Final Fantasy IX (2000)
The Final Fantasy games have long been praised for pushing hardware limitations and standing out amongst similarly-structured titles, but 2000's iconic PS1 of Final Fantasy IX continues to be a standout in the genre. Final Fantasy VII is far and away the most recognizable of the RPGs available on the console, but the ninth game in the series feels more vibrant and alive.
VII seemed to have a fondness for gritty industrial areas, while the castles and woodlands of Final Fantasy IX are visually distinct and memorable. Up close, the earlier title comes across as jagged and flat, while the later game still carries a certain visual appeal.
Pre-rendered backgrounds may seem like a cheap tactic in an era in which full 3D was possible, but Final Fantasy IX's environments are made so much more appealing as a result. While not as interesting as previous games in terms of story, IX still holds up nearly two decades later, and fans don't seem to feel the need for a remaster.
