By far one of the most over-looked games in the entire PS2 library, The Thing is a horror masterpiece. Not only was the 1982 movie creepier than a bucket of creepy crawlies, but the videogame adaptation takes thing to a whole new level. The power of videogames is that they can actually make something scary even freakier, in no small part due to the interaction, which makes users feel like they're more involved. After all, watching somebody walking into a dimly-lit room full of unspeakable monsters is one thing, but actually being in control of that walk takes things to a new dimension. People may hold Dead Space on the highest of pedestals when it comes to brain-melting survival horror, but The Thing did it first, and did it extremely well. Supplies are scarce, your allies act like real human beings, people can turn against you, and the psychological warfare employed by the title beast constantly has you on edge. If you only play one game from this list, make it The Thing. Just, don't trust anybody, sometimes not even yourself.
